ABOUT
Moxie Finn (Chloë) is a Cardiff-based picture book author-illustrator.
Her mixed heritage and feminist upbringing energises her to champion diversity and equality in her stories, with a specific focus on uplifting girls, women and feminine people.

As a mentee on the 2022-2024 Pathways Into Children’s Publishing Programme Chloë worked with a variety of publishers (from Bloomsbury through to Quarto) to develop her technique, style and voice to flourish within the picture book industry. She’s adapted her workflow to suit the production line of rough composition, linework, colour rough and final illustration and embraced the joys of collaboration required for a successful picture book.

As a digital artist she is stylistically inspired by the rich colour-scapes of Lorena Alvarez, the painterly dimension of Jonny Duddle and the mythical whimsy of Beatrice Blue.

As an author, Chloë’s ‘narrative north stars’ are Fantasy, Flora and Feminism. She takes themes such as self-worth and pride in your individuality and filters them through a world of fairies, dragons and the spirit of nature. In this way her stories have a fairy tale rhythm whilst mirroring modern culture.
Often this lends to a slightly older picture book audience and Chloë is inspired by books such as the Brownstone series (Joe Todd Stanton) and The Queen in the Cave (Júlia Sardà) which invite older children and even adults to engage with the joys of a visually rich format.
Ultimately Chloë dreams that her stories will encourage conversations between children and adults about feeling empowered in every day life whilst enjoying a landscape of artistic beauty and magic.
